About the Norfolk Keyboard Orchestra

The Norfolk Keyboard Orchestra is an orchestra for pianists and keyboard players, and a social setting for making music together.  We play all kinds of music, often rock and pop-themed, or music from films.  Sometimes we branch out into other, unusual genres!

NKO gives a concert at the end of every term, and that’s the focus of each term’s work.

It’s great fun to make music together, as every orchestral player knows.  The opportunities for beginner and intermediate pianists and keyboardists to make music socially are almost non-existent, and it’s for this reason that I founded the Norfolk Keyboard Orchestra in January 2008.  The orchestra has gone from strength to strength since then, and these days we use a full PA system, live drums and vocals, which makes the experience very special.  I am very proud of NKO, and I have a team of experienced and dedicated staff to run the different Sections and to help keep everyone focussed and making progress together.

Music for NKO is published each term on my website and is available for all members of the orchestra to download and print.

Our uniform is casual, but gives us a brilliant group identity.  All NKO members are very proud to wear it.  See the NKO uniform here, where you will find photos, sizes, prices and an order form.

Rehearsals take place in Brundall on Thursdays, 5.30 to 7.00pm.  The orchestra is open to adults and children alike, at any stage of learning.  Please contact me if you would like more information, or download and fill in the Application Form to join NKO.  We look forward to welcoming you to a unique and amazing orchestral experience!

Hello, I am an adult piano player at about grade 4. I am very keen to join the keyboard orchestra. Do you have space for new members and will new application forms be available for next term soon?
    Many thanks

      Hi Rachel,

Thanks for getting in touch. I would love to have you in the Norfolk Keyboard Orchestra! I’ve always wanted the orchestra to be a mixture of adults and children, but currently we have no adults. We have a broad age range, with a number of young people, as well as younger children. Would you be happy being the only adult? I hope so! You can email me on rory@ripplingkeys.co.uk or you could phone me on 01603 717239 if you’d like to have a chat. I’d love to meet you, and I hope you will want to join us and pave the way for more adult members. Please do get back to me and let me know how you feel. You will gain a huge amount from being in NKO, especially in relation to sight-reading skills. The best thing would be if you had another adult friend who could join with you – is that a possibility?

I look forward to hearing from you soon, and many thanks again for getting in touch.

      Best wishes,
